When patients are faced with dental restorations, they often have a lot of questions about their choices. Dental crowns, dental bridges, and other restorative dental solutions are readily available with Dr. Tokiko Poppe and her team at Cosmos Dentistry of Bellevue, Washington. Many patients have questions about the cost of treatments, wondering if dental bridges are cheaper than dental crowns or if dental crowns are less expensive than fillings or partial dentures. We educate patients on the various ways to restore the smile, including replacement solutions.
While both treatments restore the ability to chew and can improve the look of a smile, they differ in how they are placed. Dental bridges typically require two or more crowns on either side of a gap left by missing teeth. The “bridging” effect is created when the crowns are connected together. On the other hand, crowns fit directly over existing teeth that may have been weakened or damaged by decay or trauma. The crown protects the tooth, as it helps prevent further damage and restores the look of the smile. Because crowns are part of a dental bridge, dental bridges are often more costly than a single dental crown or cap.
The type of restoration needed will depend on the individual’s situation. Some factors include whether an existing healthy tooth needs protection, such as with a dental crown, or if a tooth or several teeth need replacement, in which Dr. Poppe will often recommend a dental bridge instead.
