Receiving consistent dental care is the key to having a beautiful smile and healthy teeth and gums. However, some situations call for a more advanced approach to beautifying your smile, and that’s where cosmetic dentistry comes in. Dr. Tokiko Poppe with Cosmos Dentistry is here to help you find all the solutions you need for a next-level smile.Â
Unlike general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry focuses almost solely on improving the appearance of your smile. While some cosmetic dental procedures also improve functionality, many of these procedures and treatments aren’t covered by insurance because they’re done for cosmetic purposes.
A quick visit to the oral care aisle at your local pharmacy or supermarket will reveal many teeth-whitening products. However, over-the-counter teeth whiteners aren’t ideal for making your smile as white as possible. Only a dentist has access to prescription-strength whitening gel. Also, when your teeth are professionally whitened, your oral care team will look for other dental issues.
Dental veneers are made from ultra-thin porcelain pieces your dentist bonds to your front teeth. Porcelain veneers are custom-made just for you, so they match the color and shape of your natural teeth. Veneers can also be made with composite resin material. Veneers can be used to camouflage any of these dental problems:
Dental implants are ideal for replacing one or more missing teeth. With implants, a titanium screw is implanted directly into your jawbone, where it fuses with the bone to create a solid new artificial root. After recovery time, an abutment and crown are placed on top of the screw. Dental implants function almost exactly like your natural teeth.
A crown is designed to fit over your entire tooth. Dental crowns are typically made from porcelain or acrylic to provide you with optimal bite force. Crowns are utilized to restore teeth that are extensively decayed, misshapen, chipped, or fractured. Dentists can also use crowns to cover large fillings and even out spaces between your teeth.Â
Orthodontists can use braces or clear aligners to straighten crooked teeth. This can also help crowded teeth, buck teeth, or widely spaced teeth. Some dental insurance plans cover orthodontics, so check your policy.
With dental bonding, a tooth-colored material is applied to the tooth to conceal imperfections like cracked, chipped, or badly stained teeth.
